You Said It Would Not Happen! You Said It Was Better Last Year! You Said There Was No Way You Would Stand In Those Concession Lines Again BUT IT DID. AND IT […]

I’ve noticed that Google Ads sometimes serves up ads into my blog that I think are offensive (and bizarre). I’m trying to get rid of them by putting them in my “competitive ad filter” in Google Adsense. We’ll see how it goes. (grumble grumble) I also just started using Google Adsense section targeting. I now […]

I set this up mostly because Spam Karma leaves giant overhead in my WordPress MySQL database. But it can’t hurt running it on the rest of my databases. My cron job, which runs at 6:05am every first of the month looks a bit like this #!/bin/sh # Optimize all of my popular databases. This is […]

RSS-Footer sticks a little footer in my RSS feed that points viewers back to my blog. It helps redirect people back to the site (which is prettier than a boring RSS feed) and might help deter website scrapers somewhat. Scrapers steal web content and put it on their own spammy sites to try and generate […]

My blog was getting slow so I called Dreamhost support. They wrote back Okay, I see a pretty big issue. It looks like you’ve got 92MB of overhead (i.e. unoptimized queries) on your blog’s database. Optimizing the queries seems to have knocked your DB down to a more sensible 37.8MB – which can be trimmed […]

He finds plagiarism with Copyscape.com and then sends them a DCMA take-down form-letter. This works even if your site is Creative Commons Attribution… If they don’t give you attribution, it’s still an enforcable copyright violation. […]

From Amaker As some of you might know, a friend, Todd Blair (toddblair.wordpress.com), was seriously injured at the last SRL show in Amsterdam. I’m asking for donations from artisans, crafters, and technicians to sell at a benefit on December 1st, 2007 (http://www.srl.org/shows/events/todd/). 100% of the sales will go to Todd’s recovery fund. The benefit […]

I’ve gotten this email hundreds of times without really looking at this spam image. Could you look at it for me? Thanks. That was bugging me. Update 3-2-08. I’m pretty sure that this post, originally titled “P[nospam]enis P[nospam]atch” has been messing with my Google rank. It appears that my Google juice is good enough such […]

Though I’m not camping with Illumination Village at Burning Man this year, I am good friends with many people in the camp. Reading this internal announcement, I thought “Wow, that’s pretty cool.”
