Both came out <strong>fantastic</strong>. I've been drinking both meads for the last few months. I'm now sadly staring at the last quart of Premier Cuvee and the last few ounces of Cote des Blancs.

<strong>The Premier Cuvee</strong>: thick and gooey on the tongue and throat. A bit sweet though countered with a strong bite. Quite alcholic. Quite fun to drink.
<strong>
Cote des Blancs</strong>: bright but full bodied flavor. The first taste has quite a bite but subsequent tastes had much different flavors. Ray and I agreed that the flavor evolved with each taste, less bite, more body, a little peppery.

Both meads came out tremendously. A joy to make and even more of a joy to drink.

Simple. Simple. Simple.

<strong>Honey, water, yeast, stir, airlock, sit for 1-6 months, drink, enjoy.</strong>

Thank you someone who freakin has a brain enough to tell that the ice caps aren't melting. And if they are there is nothing nada zip zilch that we can do about it and that it just happens.
Any one else who believes that crap about man-made global warming is an idiot. Who knows less than a 13 year old. (AKA Me.)

I've been using a halogen bulb in my "Torch" since 1993. That's 16 years, twice as long as you, and I only use the high setting. It's still going strong.

Just a minute ago, at 2:30pm I got a call from "Jenny with the steam cleaners" (that's how the autodialer message started). I set up an appointment to have my carpets cleaned in my 3 room apartment on Monday July 6th between 8 and 10am for just $74!

Of course I gave a fictitious but nearby address and a different phone number from last time. The lady was really sweet.

Let me reiterate that, according to the world authority on the subject, the polar ice caps are not disappearing. Recent news articles claimed that the <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=polar+ice+30+years">polar caps would be gone in 30 more years</a>. The evidence does not support this at all.

The area of the surface of the earth that is covered with polar ice has decreased approximately 6% in the last 30 years. It is very difficult to say whether the 6% decrease is anomalous given that there are normal solar and terrestrial fluctuations. There certainly has been a change, the northern polar ice caps have decreased and the southern polar ice caps have increased.

Kill 50% of the population? Really, you think so? That's the only way? Somehow I suspect that it could be done differently. Nice try on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man">straw man argument</a>

I don't believe the Sierra Club is the spokesperson for everyone fighting global warming. They have their opinion, they state it, good for them. But they don't represent me. They offer some ideas, maybe they are right, maybe they are wrong.

As exampled by your choice of showing but a single chart that you claimed proved "There is no ice crisis" and your inability to listen (not agree- just listen) to someone talking about an alternative point of view without disgust, I propose that you are not seriously engaging this issue but simply seeking confirmation for beliefs you already have.

As for the accuracy of the measurements, the measurements start in 1979 because that's when they started taking satellite pictures of the polar ice caps. They have a picture for <a href="http://igloo.atmos.uiuc.edu/cgi-bin/test/print.sh">just about every day</a> since 1979 so I don't think your measurements argument holds.

Re: USA most Eco friendly country: That's its own argument but I would prefer to stay focused on the global warming thread. If you believe that carbon dioxide is causally related to global warming, then the US does not rank so well as a carbon emitter, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_per_capita">per capita.</a>

Here is a piece of advice for you to ignore Soldier: Consider <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias">Confirmation bias</a>. Without taking in rational perspectives from <strong>outside</strong> your world of observations, you may only see things in ways that do not threaten your preconceived notions. Reconsider "written published facts"

Also something most people don't take into consideration is that information gathered on how much ice is floating in the Arctic Ocean from 1979 is FAR FAR less accurate than information gathered in the current year. and information on temperature readings from hundreds of years ago are of course far far less accurate than temp recordings in the modern year. basicly, the more accurate the reading of 'change', the more drastic it will appear on a chart.

(P.S. i dont base any of my information off written published facts, im just expressing my opinion upon what i have seen and observed in the real world)

first, i doubt the polar bears are just dieing off and becoming endangered. if the ice melts, they go where there's land. like Canada! Canada cant melt. Second, to the comment up top about 'Global Warming' and NASA reporting the global average temp increasing 1.2 degrees in the past 100 years is OUTRAGEOUS! mostly because im positive that over the past thousands of years the polar ice caps and melted and re-froze, then melted again and sure enough froze over again. also, no days, more than EVER have there been more laws and regulations to human 'pollution' with the United States leading that cause. one of the most Eco friendly nations on the planet. ive traveled to more countries than you've spoken of and i have seen how other nations deal with pollution and human waste. basically, they don't. to believe we are destroying the environment is just ignorance and believing everything you see on the T.V. and read on the internet. Please understand that our earth is a living breathing thing. it cools, it heats, it changes over time. ice ages come and go. it makes since. granted, we do pollute but, do your small part and it makes that much difference. but to run scream and cry that the sky is falling is just ridiculous.

>The point is, why take the chance?

Because, if we are to believe the Sierra Club (via the <a href="http://sierraclub.typepad.com/compass/2009/06/sierra-clubs-carl-pope-debates-chevron-ceo-dave-oreilly.html">recent debate between Sierra Club's Carl Pope and Chevron CEO Dave O'Reilly</a> (<a href="http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/06/18/midday2/?refid=0">hear the whole event here</a>)recent debate between Sierra Club's Carl Pope and Chevron's CEO Dave O'Reilly</a>) we have to cut our carbon emissions by 90%. To do that and still have niceties like electricity, food, and powered transportation, we would have to kill maybe 50% of the human population. I'm not game for that.

Sorry if that sounds crass but that's pretty much how the options stack up.

I encourage you to listen to the debate. Truth be told, I could only make it about 15 minutes before turning off my radio in disgust. Sierra Club's Carl Pope was all about aggrandizement and fomenting the people's struggle against "the man". Please listen <strong>carefully</strong> to what he is calling for instead of getting caught up in his emotional plea. Then ask yourself how we might reach the goals he demands.

The importance of global warming depends upon <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shishmaref,_Alaska">where you live</a> I guess. My understanding is that the effects are not evenly distributed. I've even heard some people say that the US might be a net beneficiary.

Your right that TV gets things wrong. The accuracy and value of the media is a discussion in itself. But does that in itself invalidate the idea of global warming?

Data can tell a different story depending upon the perspective that its presented. For instance, the graph you present shows Global ice coverage. Small changes in that graph appear negligible because there is a large amount of "permanent" ice that doesn't completely melt, scattered around the globe. Another way of looking at it would be that there is a seasonal variation of, say, ~7 million sq km. An increase of 1 million sq km represents a 14% increase in seasonal variation.

Now, if you consider that perhaps the effects are not evenly distributed, then within some local environment, like the arctic ocean around Alaska, might experience a much larger variation. Animals and <a href="http://www.besis.uaf.edu/besis-oct98-report/Subsistence.pdf">subsistence hunters</a> who depend upon the historical ice coverage patterns will feel the impact in such a change far more acutely.

For me, one of the most important things to remember is that the process is non-linear. You suggested that 6.25% loss would not be significant. Lets say, for the sake of argument, that there has been such a loss. I sense that many peoples perspective on this is that "well, if it took 30, 50, 100 or whatever years to loose 6.25%, then it will take the same period to loose another 6.25%, at worst". I don't personally believe this to be true. I think it will increase far more rapidly in the future.

One reason is the melting of the permafrost which will start to release methane as temperatures rise. Also, oceans without ice absorb more energy than those with ice coverage meaning the more that's melted, the more energy the oceans absorb, increasing temperatures, and melting ice.

Of course, all this may be wrong. The point is, why take the chance? It would seem that a lot of scientists in the know think it might be correct, so why not take a serious look at it? Should we as a planet ignore the potential when the worse that would happen if we are wrong is that we have to drive electric cars and live with windmills?

As a postscript, I don't follow the philosophy that we are "saving the planet". The planet is fine, no matter what we do. I don't even think we are saving humanity, we will survive. But the thing is, I like bears, and I like living in a world where there are bears. I don't like the idea of a future of just humans, ants, and cockroaches just because we don't want to make some changes now.

I don't know about it being pure coming from China. I'm sure they are responsible for the death of my beloved Lance( 7 year old pure bread doberman pincher). The ad says "born within a Nature Protected Area of Montemuro Moutain in North of Portugal". As I said, you be the judge of that.

In my ignorance, I thought you were kidding; but I'm also known to look things up, which I did. Imagine my surprise http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/12243147/Moon_Water_The_Low_Gravity_Water.html . I sounds like a fine choice, but you will have to be the judge of that. If it's something I trust to put inside my body, I would certainly trust applying it to my body.
Good Luck,
Denise

I'm not going to dig my heels in on global warming... there are many other things in life to worry about. That said, here's a couple important bits:

* The solar sunspot cycle is about 11 years long but there are also cycles that last hundreds and thousands of years. It is very difficult to tell what is going on with only 30 years of data. For example, it appears that the Dark Ages a few hundred years ago really were dark... temperatures in many places fell several degrees below normal, creating a mini-ice age (I'm not an expert on the Dark Ages, sorry, try googling for more info) and then there are those big Ice Ages every 27,000 years or so.

* The tv and radio news had a giant flip-out last year saying how the sky was falling (or the icecaps were melting, as the case may be). The data they presented to the public was completely wrong. You'll notice that this summer there is hardly any news about ice caps. Why do you suppose that is?

* It is inappropriate that the Arctic Climate Research at the University of Illinois has highlighted on their homepage the Northern Sea Ice Extent (the chart you quote) while they pushed the page I quoted down to a secondary page with no theories or explanations. Why aren't the experts talking about it? Because they don't know. If they don't know, they should be shouting from the rooftops "We Don't Know!" instead of "Panic!"

* A loss of 1 out of 16 million sq miles of ice is a 6.25% loss. Looking at the graph, it is very difficult to tell if that is significant. It might be signalling a trend... or not. Your bridge analogy doesn't totally work but I understand where you're coming from.

* Someone mentioned to me that it's possible significant ice mass is being lost, where the thickness of ice is currently decreasing though the surface area isn't currently decreasing (yet). That might actually really be signaling a crisis but I haven't been presented with any data for or against that which implies it's not happening.

Frank, thank you for your intelligent comments.

Hi Donald. You can find "California Firearms Laws 2007" as a link in my post above in the paragraph that starts "To say that your ammunition must be stored..."

> I have heard that all firearms must locked in a storage devices in my home
Untrue. In your home, leave it loaded and cocked on the kitchen table if you like. Though if minors have easy access to the area, it gets fuzzy (search "California Firearms Laws 2007" for "minor" for more info. Mine is locked in a GunVault near my bed.

>I have heard that all firearms must locked in a storage devices in my home and that
>if my home is within 100 yard of a school

Untrue. Check "California Firearms Laws 2007" above. Starting on page 42 it says
---- Start of Snippet ----
It is unlawful for any person to possess or bring a firearm upon the grounds of, into, or within a
distance of 1,000 feet from the grounds of a school
...
Exceptions
...
Within a place of residence or place of business or on private property, if the place
of residence, place of business, or private property is not part of the school grounds
and the possession of the firearm is otherwise lawful.

You should take a look at some of the other graphs on your link. <a href="http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seasonal.extent.1900-2007.jpg">This one</a> is a good example. Those charts start to look a little droopy as time goes on.

Even the graph you show as an example of a lack of ice change suggest otherwise. The lowest extents on the 1979 side suggest a minimum of 16 million sq miles whereas the current measures bottom out at 15 million sq km for a regular difference of a million sq km. A million sq km would seem to be pretty big. If the loss is not uniformly spread out (whatever that means) then it could spell trouble for whomever expected it to be there.

Also, the winter difference of 2 million sq km which was mockingly circled could be serious if one had spent a large amount of time migrating to some ice spot only to find it wasn't there as was expected. Taking merely 10 feet off the end of a 3000 foot bridge still makes the bridge useless.

"There is no ice crisis. So, if you please, shut up now."
I think you invited the 14 yo to the party with that one.

I have recently moved into a new place and would like to know what my “legal” storage options are for my firearms in my apartment. I have 2 handguns, 2 rifles, and a shotgun. Lee, you keep referring to “California Firearms Laws 2007” when asked about home storage. I have been unable to find this post on your blog or on the web anywhere. Can you enlighten me? I have heard conflicting things from gun dealers and other firearm owners in my area. I have heard that all firearms must locked in a storage devices in my home and that if my home is within 100 yard of a school I am prohibited from having a firearm on the property. I do not have children and want to keep a gun near my bed for the protection of myself and my wife but I also do not want to find myself behind bars. What are the laws about home storage?

That video of Vernon's homemade setup is pretty cool. Not much detail on that ingenious speed control though. Does anyone know what is good to bolt onto the drive shaft for a roller? Maybe something that's already 5/8" ID. It's good that a vertical shaft engine was used since they are much more readily available and cheaper than horizontal shaft engines. And it sits lower on the frame.

well i meant no offense to anyone but its not a way to impress complete strangers i am more into the idea of just making people turn heads and to think wtf? its just a simple project i am working on to (again) see if i can accomplish it and then part of it is just to see if it will actually work... i have seen some in motion but i want to see if my setup will work and maybe inspire others to think outside the box too.....i just asked for ideas not smart remarks about what i am trying to accomplish, i do not have a welder but i have a friend who does and i am an experience (not licensed) welder so i could rig it up... and so far all i have in the bike is 10 bucks, so if you can tell me where to get a electric or bolt on kit for less let me know until then (and i mean this is the nicest way possible) dont assume i have hundreds into a bike or anything before you post comments about me spending too much... and this part of the message is to steve thanks that video is very informative... thanks

Brian, it sounds like you're more after a concept and a way to impress strangers than having a practical bike to drive. If things get stolen that easy, you must live in a really scummy location, maybe an inner city ruled by uncivilized savages? Well, unless you have a cutting torch and welder and are really talented, you'll end up spending more money starting from scratch than it would have cost to just buy a bolt-on gas motor kit or a complete electric bike. Things are very expensive these days. If you want to just impress people, just strap some kind of gas tank on the bike and pedal down to the gas station and fill it up. If one of those easily-impressed people ask where the engine is, tell them it's hidden inside the frame.

Brian, as i read your post i visualized this. the kind of 'mobike' you'll produce will not get you to a gas station, will not be stolen and won't be seen by anyone's head that can be turned. you state every reason why you can't/shouldn't build a 'mobike',then you're at the gas pump turning heads. Brian, i don't believe this concept will work out for you. please rethink it and repost it. i'm curious about what you'll come up with next. i'm also on your side amigo. build a 'mobike' and hit the road! no fear allowed!.

Dear Anonymous, please note where my information comes from. <strong>I</strong> am not saying world ice coverage hasn't changed since 1979, the <a href="http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere">Arctic Climate Research group at the University of Illinois</a> is saying it. Those people are the world authority on this type of stuff.

PS. It's inappropriate to tell someone to fuck themselves, especially when you aren't completely sure of your facts.

PPS. The internet isn't as anonymous as you think.

comment to elf: thanks for the advice and i sincerely mean this in the nicest way possible when i say this... im really just looking for something to rig up and see if it would actually work, without being able to work or drive(orders from my doctor) i have just too much time on my hands sitting at the house. and its really more of an idea and a way to pass the time. and just a way to get to the small stores around here. and really spending that much on a vehicle as it could be classified and riding it around here would not be worth it. things around here get stolen fast so i would feel alot safer just builind something that noone would steal as quickly as something premade prefabbed and looking really nice. but all in all its just a small project to pass the time and have something to do. but when it come to the gasoline powered versus electric, i would rather just have the gas to be able to stop at a gas station and have a head turning bike, and make people wonder why in the world is a guy on a bicycle filling up at the pump lol? ...and i meant no offense when i posted this, and i didnt mean to sound rude but if i did i am sorry.

I hate you Lee. I cannot believe that you would say something so untrue. I am only 14 years old and know more than you. Where the hell do you think all of those polar bears going? And how come the NOAA and NASA have confirmed that the Earth's average surface temperature has increased about 1.2 degrees in the last 100 years? Which is the largest difference in temperature since any major events during Pangaea. Go fuck yourself!

p.s. I am really on 14 and just proved you wrong, the ice caps had better watch out and not listen to any asses like you...

Brian, your best bet by far is to just purchase an Ezip bike from Wally World or amazon or whoever. Depending on when or where you order or buy, the price ranges from $246 to about $346. Why bother building one from scratch and spending much more than just buying a bike. It's not possible to build one cheaper than just buying one. It's a good dependable bike and the lowest priced one ever. I've driven mine about a year and a half with zero problems. Except my batteries are nearing the end of their life span, which is normal.

no i havent, judging by your name though it sounds like a self promotion lol but no matter i will definitely check it out, but my only problem i have seizures and my doctor tells me i cant work or drive so i have been checkin on doing this as a mode of transportation, but not having a job i dont have the extra cash to just be spending on fully assembled kits or motors, so i am trying to devise my own on the cheap but if you have an ideas or suggestions, let me know it would be greatly appreaciated... also i will look at the photos of the kits and mounting to se if i can maybe score an idea on how to use it on my bike so thanks for the help
