Beautiful things I saw recently
Actually I found this in a pile of old thoughts from 2006 or so
Flying over The Great Salt Lake. I don’t think it was the lake itself… it was just north of Salt Lake City. There is this grand expanse where the lake used to be… it’s mostly blue-purple. At 35,000 feet. There are white patches that look like white caps and other faint white whiffs that look like the ripples of when looking into deep water. But how can that be? The scale is off by a factor of 1,000!
On the BART on the way to SFO at sunrise, there is a low lying area with high voltage electric lines in a swampy area. Fog was wisping about and settling in beautiful ways… playing off the sunrise-yellow morning.
New Laptop Recommendations?
I’m looking at getting a new laptop computer.
I know I can’t recreate my dual monitor system at home so I’m shooting for small and carryable. I tried a 17″ wide-screen behemoth from Dell last year and it was awful: It weighed a frigging ton, occupied my entire bag and ran Vista.
I liked a 10″ netbook computer with a 94% size keyboard I saw at Radio Shack. 8 hour battery life, weighing 3 lbs. I forget which… it looked like they all were just awesome. The ones I tried all ran Notepad with blazing speed. Heh.
Some questions:
- Is Windows 7 as hari-kari inducing as Vista?
- A $350 laptop with all the horsepower of my desktop computer? What am I missing besides the screen space?
- If they are $350 from Radio Shack, where do I buy these laptops for free?
