Installed Math Comment Spam Protection Plugin

(note: I disabled the plugin. See the comments for more info)

To try and keep the 100+ comment spams per day out of my life (and even my ‘moderated’ pile), I’ve installed Math Comment Spam Protection. I’ve tried several “makes you add two numbers” plugins and this one seems to work best with what I have. If it makes posting comments too terrible, please tell me…. in a comment… or…. whatever.

    Not a bad idea.

After using it for a few days, I think this filter might be a keeper. Spam Karma tells me “There have been 3 comment spams caught since the last digest report 1 week ago.” Instead of the normal 700. Also, there have been a couple comments left by people, dumb as they may be.

Hmm, the plugin is working less than perfectly at stopping comment spam… I’m getting 40/day instead of 100… Hurumph. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to WordPress 2.0.

One Safari user and one WinXP user (he didn’t know what browser he was using but it obviously wasn’t Safari) have had trouble with this plugin so I’ve disabled the plugin on my site :-( They said they typed in the correct math but it claimed the math was wrong. This might be an incompatibility with WP-Cache but I can’t disable WP-Cache or my site will be too slow :-(
