- front-loading clothes washer? Consider water savings, reliability, & space savings into price. clothes washer with temperature sensor IE "warm" water is always the same temp.

- solar panel hot water booster

- PV Solar on roof? How fast will it pay for itself?

- whole house humidifier (in a forced air system). Probably one that wastes water in order to keep the filter clear.

- central A/C unit shouldn't be too big. They're much more efficient when running for long periods. Scale it so it's running 100% on the 5 hottest days of the summer. 





Glass, lighting and Greenhouse:

- Lights: Philips sls-20 compact flourescent make good light. 7-14-02 Biax FEA18TBX 18Watt makes good light. I saw these in the bathroom of the W Hotel San Francisco

- wall sconce lighting

- Pela Rollscreen window screens

- a nice glassed-in sun room/winter greenhouse like at mom & dads. Overlooking water? Don't use low-e glass here, maybe triple-paned instead, to encourage solar warming

- greenhouse off the kitchen

- indoor dark stone (slate?) on the south side under windows to hold heat (this effect is negated if low-e glass is used.

- in cold climate: low-e coating goes on inner pane, warming the window and home. in hot climate: low-e coating goes on the outer pane, cooling the house. low-e windows reduce fabric fading in the house.

- passive hot/cold air vents/windows at top and bottom of room in sun room

- exposed elements so that everyone can see how it all works. No secrets..  IE exposed rafters, visible butressing, windows that swing open (instead of slide), slightly exposed foundation pilings, visible neatly mortared cinder block, corregated metal, exposed chimney pipe, exposed door latches, lamps hanging from their own electric wires (??)

- built-in night lights / runner lights that look similar to electric outlets? But that limits my ability to move furniture...

- shutters that actually work (or at least effectively look like they work!)
