Hello to all Nero Ashbury members! Taking into account the driving rain, freezing temperatures, slippery ground, and heinous monsters, I hope that all of you had a terrific weekend. Granted, it was cold out there but I had a good time being skeet. (if none of you recognized me under the beard and rotund belly, I am Gadlen Chimeran, daahrk hobling.) If anyone has anything they would like to go into the newsletter, please send it to NeroNY.aol.com (Mike Ventrella!) as soon as possible. Also, if you'd like to put something in the RUMOR SHEET, tell us! You heard correctly at closing ceremonies, there is a module running virtually every weekend this winter at the Brooklyn site! If you want to attend one, I'd recomend you calling and making a reservation. It is usually best to adventure with 6 people in a party. Depending on the adventure, parties of 5 or 7 people are sometimes alowable. If you are alone, or need some people to fill out a party, call the office or ask online! It usually isn't too much of a problem. If you are traveling to the Brooklyn site from afar, you might want to ask about sleeping -at- the site. You should bring a sleeping bag but there is space, a shower and a good time to be had by all. Do you have any questions that should be in the Nero FAQ? recent additions are: can I see an imprison/circle? what are all the binding spells and their effects? what can get through an imprison? How do I get to be a marshal? If you need a copy of the 10/4/93 FAQ, just holler and I'll fill your mailbox. We have many Nero Ashbury members online. Here are some of the more frequently talked to people: merry@ace.com The Duchess NeroNY@aol.com Mike Ventrella, "Our Fearless Leader" wariorsoul@aol.com Matt Pearson, you name it, he does it rowellk@aol.com Mike Marielli, ditto! wyeth@ai.mit.edu Luke Sullivan, Clan Leader of the Orc tribe, ditto 95EEC@acunix.wheatonma.edu Emily Classon, Baroness of the Ash Forest Have a friend that might be interested in Nero? Stick this in their mailbox: ---------------------------------------------------------------- "Tell me about NERO." NERO is a live action fantasy roleplaying game that blends elements of the Robin Hood legend, Lord of the Rings, and King Arthur tales. It started in the late '80s in the Boston area, expanding quickly over the past few years. Right now the New England chapters have about 1,000 members. Usually 100-200 people show up at each Adventure weekend which consists of =constant= play time from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon! NERO's gaming system is designed to allow little supervision of the players so that action is always taking place, even without Marshals (our 'Game Masters') present. It is set in a Medieval atmosphere and proper costuming is encouraged but not required. Our world is a monarchy with nobility, with good and evil battling at all levels. There are sword fights with boffer weapons, skills like trap disarming where your actual ability with scissors and tools is all that might keep you alive, and magic spells thrown with "spell packets"; if you incant the spell properly (IE "I call forth a Flame bolt!") and hit the target with the spell packet, the spell works. If you miss with either, the spell fails! To go on the Adventure, you must become a member. This is $30, but if you are unhappy with NERO Ashbury in any way, you can get a money back refund! (our fees are mainly to cover the cost of insurance, newsletters, camp rental fees, props, food for NPC's etc etc etc) Our next adventure weekend will be in the spring when it is a bit warmer out. Until then, we are having shorter (2-3 hour long) indoor adventures at our Brooklyn site virtually every weekend! In addition, players are welcome to stay "In-Game" and play at our tavern. The best way to find out more about Nero is to come see us in Brooklyn on the weekends! It's a good idea to call before you show up, just to make sure we are gaming on that weekend. For more info about Nero, or just directions, you can: email Lsonko@pearl.tufts.edu, call Nero at (718)596-NERO or write to us at: NERO 218 Plymouth St Brooklyn NY 11201-1124 We hope to see you there!
