BURNING MAN 2004 - VAULT OF HEAVEN This is the third unofficial Burning Man screen saver project. After installing, don't touch your mouse. Don't touch your keyboard. Rebirth in the open abyss will be your gift. Enjoy! The biggest screen saver, 1of1R, has 1231 fantastic photos! Thanks to each and every one of the photographers who submitted material for this year's effort. FORMATS SUPPORTED: Depending on which CD you received: Windows XP, 2000, NT, Me, 98 and 95 or Macintosh OS 8.6 thru OS 10. iScreensaver: iScreensaver (iscreensaver.net) contacted us about using their program. It's a cross-platform program that allows easy generation of both Windows and Macintosh screen savers, in a fast, easy to use environment. They graciously offered the use of their program free of all licensing fees. They're burners, too! Check them out at www.ixcreensaver.com. QUICKTIME: In order for the screen savers to operate properly, you must have QuickTime 6.0 installed on your computer. You can go to their web site in advance of installing the screen savers and download QuickTime. It's free. If QuickTime isn't already installed on your computer when you install a screen saver, the program will prompt you to download the program, load your browser, send you to the site, etc. It'll seem like a pain in the ass, but it'll be worth it! FILE NAME CONVENTION: The first part of the file name is 'VH' for Vault of Heaven. The second part is '1of1', 'Xof2' or 'Xof5'. These relate to full or partial screen saver versions (splits). The third part is PG or R. Self explanatory. Windows screen savers have an EXE or ZIP extension. Mac screen savers have BIN or SIT extensions. If the file is ZIP it will need to be unzipped. If the file is SIT you'll need to Unstuffit. 1OF1, XOF2, XOF5, ETC: 1of2 and 2of2 are even and odd numbered photos taken from 1of1. These are simply screen savers with half as many photos as 1of1. The only reason these exist is to reduce the burden on your system's resources just in case you've got a crappy computers like ours. You can just switch back and forth between them when you get a bug up your behind! The same rationale holds true for 1of5 through 5of5. PG VERSUS R: The PG versions have no discernable nudity, sexual innuendo, expletives, etc. The R versions have content that might be considered inappropriate in some home or office environments; i.e. they do contain some nudity, sexual innuendo, expletives, etc. The R versions are the PG versions with additional content. INSTALLERS: When you click to install the screen savers, be patient. For some unknown reason, the installers take a while before putting any information on the screen to let you know it's doing something. RESOLUTION: These screen savers are designed to look good on 1024 x 768 resolution monitors, and smaller. This allows us to have fewer screen savers, at the expense of having some slightly larger file sizes. DISTRIBUTION: THESE SCREEN SAVERS ARE FOR FREE DISTRIBUTION ONLY. All photographs contained herein, and these compilations, are protected by one, or more, copyrights held by the original photographer and/or David Hamilton. Any installer (.EXE, .ZIP, .SIT or .BIN file) can be individually distributed. No additional support files are required, with the exception that QuickTime must ultimately be available. If you burn CDs for distribution, please include a copy of this README on the discs. PARTICIPATE: Keep an eye on the web site (www.bmscreensavers.com) after this year's 'Psyche' event for announcements about next year's project. If you'd like a 'heads up', send an e-mail to brcbound@earthlink.net. We'll send you a reminder about the project. VOLUNTEER: Please. Please. Please. 1. Web Downloads If you have the ability to provide server storage and access, make contact. There is an overwhelming, short-term crunch on our server when the screen savers are announced in the JRS. We'd like to spread this load over several servers so that burners can get their fixes in a timely manner. 2. If you would like to help with the development of next year's project, including planning, resizing photos, adding credits and building partial sections of the screen savers, burning CDs, make contact.
